A beautiful image But having the dogs ear chopped off really bothers me.
Doesn't bother me. Whacking off part of the head is now common practice with human head portraits.

I don't give a RRR about common practice, it makes a bad portrait.

Not for me and the thousands who appreciate them that way.
You are welcome to your opinion. Heck, some people want Hillary for president!
Great shot!! I have a soft spot for German shepherds, I've got 2 at home right now. I bet you pet him every time you see him.
Two schools of thought from MtnMan and Mangles. I do both but usually try to get the whole head with animal portraits. This was definitely a quick shot as he wouldn't stay still very long. Now when I used to shoot people portraits, there was a lot of cropping when I focused in on a pretty face. I crop to what pleases me now and that's what keeps photography exciting for me.
Thanks for looking and commenting. ;-)

It bothers me too but I like the left ear orientation with the corner of the frame. Still a nice photo.
What a handsome fellow! Good portrait, Photog8!
Thanks for visiting Rod & Sue. ;-)
Beautiful animal. I still miss mine more than 40 years later.
Our pets can sure be like family. Glad you stopped by for a visit. ;-)
