I know it politically correct here to encourage you, but you have what? - three weeks to become a professional wedding photographer?

From your post, I am guessing you are not one who knows his equipment inside out, is comfortable with flash and natural light and can switch between them with hardly a thought. Can you look at a situation and just KNOW what ISO, shutter speed and aperture would be correct - or at least a good starting point?

If this is a casual wedding and you are doing this as a favor and the couple is not terribly concerned if the images are great...then good luck and give it a shot. If not, you (and they) may be very disappointed.

Good (even barely passable) wedding photography is a skill requiring lots of experience and practice. Good luck!

Between now and then you should do nothing BUT practice. If you rely on manual flash, may God be with you. You are the person the Canon eTTL system is meant for.

Oh my.

It may be worth it to rent a body capable clean shots at higher ISO than the 1000D can, getting a faster lens(you never said what you have) and going available light(no flash auto)

Does your friend have any idea how poorly he/she is treating you?

What concerns me is after reading my book to study up an practice with an external flash after realizing the built in one is not good enough is My menu on my camera does not line up to what the book is showing pictures and describing yet I do have a canon eos1000dtkis and the book says canon1000d so it should all line up what the?

For a bounceable flash that will work with your camera and not put you in the poor house, take a look at the Canon 270ex for about $160. If you want a bigger flash, but money is tight, look at the Promaster or Sigma.

Another thought - if you have a good camera shop, look into renting a flash. Their prices (especially weekend rates) might make it more affordable to manage.
