I just bought an Epson WF-3640 printer and got it set up. The first thing I did was to print off some test prints and when printing a photo at 8x10, I noticed that it was covered in horizontal and vertical lines, with the horizontal lines being most prominent. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing this? The printer is brand new as are the cartridges that came with it. If this is a problem with Epson printers, I will be returning it in exchange for something else.
I would try to do a head cleaning if that doesn't work send it back. This is not really a good photo printer anyway, more for documents. Are you getting any unusual printing when you print a document?

I never got that far. I looked at the prints I did and was disgusted. It's going back to the store tomorrow. Any recommendations? I looked at a Canon Pixma MG 7720 printer. The specs seem good, but I haven't used one or seen anything printed from one. I am a little disillusioned with the Epson, and I don't want to spend $500.00 on a printer.
If you want a good photo printer look at the Canon Pixma Pro 100 but make sure you get it with the rebates which will drive down the cost to where you are now. B&H has a $250.00 rebate on it right now which will bring your cost down to $140.00

Hopefully shipping costs to Alaska won't offset the rebate.
Just checked B&H. No go--shipping to Alaska for that printer is $131.76!! Makes it waaaay to expensive, even with the rebate. Too bad.
Shipping is always a killer in Alaska, to bad.

I think you, like most printer buyers, failed to do your homework in advance.
Here's the review on your printer and the one that you're thinking about.

Well, that's a bit harsh, but you're right, I did not do a lot of research, but I did read a number of posts on UHH regarding printers. I think the Epson guy was well-meaning, but also mislead me by overstating the merits of the printer. I only mentioned the Canon printer because it was what was on the shelf there at Best Buy. They dind't have the Pixma Pro 100. BB pricematches, so I wonder if they will price match B&H's price that includes the $250.00 rebate.
But, thanks for the links. I did read those.
