3 shots disappeared in LR CC2015 - Trying to get them back is driving me nuts.

I have googled this til I am seeing double, nothing works.

I will probably kick myself when I find the answer.

While looking through some shots in Library mode I clicked on three versions of edits saved from PS back to lightroom. Then all of a sudden the screen flickered and they vanished from the strip at the bottom.
It says it is showing 21 of 24 shots.
In PS they come up under "recent". In Explorer they are still there in the folder.
When I try to import by turning off the anti duplicate feature it just says they are already imported and they still don't show.

I have some errands to run and hope someone has the answer when I get back.

Make a copy of them in Explorer, change the name of the copies, then import to LR, is a quick fix.

Could you have stacked the photos. If you have, you will see a photo with a number on it in the film strip.

I'd guess you accidentaly turned on a filter. Is this on a laptop? Hitting the touchpad with my thumb while typing gives me strange results sometime.

Do you flag, color code or Star rate them?, Turn off all filters and see if they appear...

Since you say they are three versions of the same file, I'm with LarryFB. Try r-clicking on the original and select stacking, unstack.

This will only work if you have "Don't import duplicates" unchecked. Duplicates have nothing to do with the file names, it has to do with the metadata in the files.

I read some of the answers here and any one of them could be the culprit. One thing I wouldn't do is rename and then reimport them. You need to iron out the problem so if and when it happens again you know how to deal with it. As stated before, if it's an edited copy of one of the images you see in the LR grid view library, then it may be stacked. You need to uncheck a box in your preferences to see them separately. It could be that you have a search feature turned on. You could have only some showing with a certain rating. Or it could be just a glitch. Perhaps rebooting the computer and restarting LR will solve the problem.

Robert did you find the source of the problem?

Did not find the source, yet.

Not stacked, no filters - turned them on an off and rebooted just to make sure Murphy wasn't causing my computer to act weird.
They are there in Explorer.
They are in "recent" in PS.
One of them is in "recent" in PaintShot Pro X8.

While trying one of the googled "fixes" an extra copy of the OOC moved in to stay. So that upped the folder to 25 files with 22 showing.
Did the rename and re import so now the folder has 28 files with 25 showing.
I think I will store an extra copy of the three elsewhere and try renaming back to original name in LR Catalogue and see what happens.
They were saved as Tiffs by PS after editing if that changes anything.
I was masking off the subject and putting in a black background and did it in three sessions which is what made the three separate files.

Interesting. I had a weird experience recently with one file that refused to show up in LR. No obvious reason why. And I had all filters OFF. Like you describe it was there then it disappeared. Although I did not see it disappear as you did. It was like it didn't exist. But it was there in the folder, just not in LR. I tried reimporting it but did not even show up in the import page. I think I finally renamed it and them reimported it.

OK, I still don't know why they disappeared but I got them back.
I reworded my search in Help and one different approach popped up.

It said that instead of right clicking the folder and selecting synchronize I should select the folder, go to Library and select synchronize from the drop down menu. It worked where right click and select from the options that appeared didn't. So now I have a folder of 28 with all 28 showing. 8 of which are 4 duplicate pairs with different names for the two photos in each pair. I am going to leave well enough alone. I can live with having spares of 4 photos.

Good job! I'm impressed. Thank you for reporting that. It is a good tip. And yes please have the good sense to leave well enough alone. LOL.

Both of us are up way too late...

I have Acronis do a full machine backup to an external drive on the one full backup, five incremental then start with a new full backup and I use "daily" so I get a full set every 6 days. I keep the current set and the last set. Then once a month I do a clone/mirror what ever it is called of the C and D drives on a second external. And I have another external with copies of all data files/libraries that I update every so often. And of course for some special things I have flash drives and CD/DVD copies.
Year before last I had my 'D' hard drive fail, that Acronis backup was a pain to tweak and get everything the way I wanted it, but it saved all my data. Then since my C drive was a Raid 0 of two 120 GB SSDs I decided to replace them with one big SSD while the case was open. A week later I had one of them installed in my daughter's laptop (whose drive had failed) and it only lasted 3 days, I dodged that one. She was fine because she hardly used the laptop, too big and heavy, she carries her little Ultra Book at UCLA and then uses her desktop, the laptop was a spare, just in case. The second 120 GB SSD is now a spare in case I need it.
