Taken in Pueblo State Park, Colorado. I think these are Merriam females, there were 6 in the group.

Thank you for taking a look AuntieM. I was glad there was more than one passing by. It took more than a few attempts before I got that second shot.

These turkey's with a short beard on there breast are Jakes
male turkeys in there first year.
older male turkeys have longer beards 8 to 12 inches depending on there age they are called tom turkeys.
hen turkeys do not normally have beards although there have been one found here & there with a beard.
in the spring turkey hunting season hunters are not allowed to shoot a beardless bird.
this protects the hens so they can lay there eggs & hatch there young.

Thank you for taking a look and all the good info. The west end of the park is state wildlife area where turkey hunting is allowed, I think with shotgun or bow only, no rifle's.

Great set, but must be molting season, as they look just a tad unkept!

Thank you Swamp-Cork, it was very windy. This was a few days ago when the snow storm was dumping in Denver. Just had high winds in my area, no snow.
