Hi all,
I have purchased a Nikkor lens 24-120 f/4 ED VR.
I purchased it through Kogan for half the price of what I could get it in the shops in Australia ( $789 ).
What do people think about this lens ?
It seems to take good photos, but is there any way of knowing if this lens is functioning good as it should be? I'm a bit concerned as it was so cheep.

Well if anything should go wrong you will need to send it back to Korea for repairs. Buying imported is foolish. Nikon Australia will not even look at it let alone repair.

Modern zoom and prime lenses with autofocus and VR have delicate electronic and mechanical components that are prone to failure. If the lens is used heavily, even if not abused, there's a good chance it will eventually fail. Having just shelled out 2/3 of the used price I originally paid for Nikon to repair one of my lenses, I speak from experience. But the lens was Nikon USA so they were happy to fix it, for $$$.

Buy another one at full price and compare images taken by both lenses.

My wife bought one from Nikon last august for $1100...great walk around lens...but that price seems awfully good...go out ant try it...if it works...stop worrying.

The going rate for a refurbished is around $600...so that might be what you have...refurbs are very good if they are done by Nikon .

I recently bought a Nikon 24-120 f4 online from buydig.com via eBay for a great price of $469 versus the normal $900 price for a refurbed model. This lens looks as good and functions as well as a Nikon 28-300mm f3.5-5.6G that I bought refurbished directly from Nikonusa.com. In fact the 24-120 was packaged exactly the same as the 28-300 from Nikon and offered the same Nikon 90-day warranty on refurbished lenses. I'm very happy with the results I'm getting from my bargain priced 24-120 in terms of sharpness, colors, focus speed and ergonomics.

If you're pleased with your lens performance, then that's all that really matters and you should be happy that you saved some bucks in the process.

I have this lens and am very happy with it. The 24-70 is slightly sharper but as a walk around lens the 24-120 f4 is hard to beat. It seems to me to be noticeably sharper than the 28-300, and it's a LOT smaller and lighter. I am probably going to sell my 24-85 because the 24-120 is a better, sharper, more versatile lens while not being much larger. Sounds like you got a good deal.
