They say if you can get the eyes in focus you're half way to a good bird shot.
I fully intend to try that focus thingie just as soon as i find where the varmint is hiding in the frame.

That little guy sure is well colored for that environment!

The local hawks occasionally stake out our bird feeders. Some of our visitors could have used that kind of protection. We occasionally find bird parts and blood where the hawks have dined on our dinner guests. And one rabbit body last week.

We can tell when a hawk is nearby as the rest of the crowd runs or flies for cover. They seem to post pretty good lookouts most of the time. I think the hawks outfox the stragglers by whipping around a tree or the house on approach.

We had a Northern Goshawk a few weeks bad that was really tough on the quail. He seems to have moved on.

I know i can do better, just have to go back to the basics:
Find it, Frame it, focus it and squeeze the shutter.
Started tracking a big old fat red cardinal.
Only problem was that when he finally landed he was a her and i had left focus out of my check list.
I'm going back to bugs, at least they allow do overs.

(My thumb remembered to hit the BBF button but my brain forgot i was shooting a manual focus tamron lens)
