Your images do a fine job of eliciting: "...what does he do when..?." and " during the monsoons where does she sleep...?"

Most will find shelter under bridges etc in very crude shelters made from plastic sheeting or tarpaulin at night.

"And the poor you will always have with you." Not a lot different than New York City, Seattle, or any number of cities I have visited in the States or other countries. I like that you have included some of her environment. The discarded tire and old bucket. They contrast with the seemingly healthy plant right next to her.

Thanks CM, this is the spot where she spends most of her day, she has just finished her ablutions. Although you can't see it here, this is a major junction in Kolkata, she sits amongst the chaotic traffic and the teeming people getting on with her life which is begging.

Might be more interesting in color. As is, doesn't do much for me.

Hello Larry, one of the most important photographic lessons I learned, many years ago, was to take pictures that please yourself, not others. If you take pictures to please others you may never take a picture that you yourself like.
Thank you for looking and commenting.

Images like this do the job of making the rest of us realise how fortunate we are. Very nice but sad find. WE have people living on the street here and in the nearby City of Canterbury, Kent. Some are living in sheltered seating areas intended for holidaymakers and some live in shop doorways.

The sadness in her eyes is apparent even though she has a slight smile on her lips. It's a curious photo because the concept of someone begging in India where there are so many poor people surprises me. It seems that most of them eek out meager livings in other ways. This photo also surprises me because she looks like the most well fed person I've seen so far in your images.

There are many beggars on every street in the cities and towns. Many have migrated from the countryside to find work, where the family farm can no longer support the extended family.
