We used to go up to Middlesex Sreet, Tower Hamlets Market on weekdays selling Falmers Jeans from Rayleigh Weir. Those were the days Al. Carreras Cig factory at Basildon. At that time, 1970's, we lived on Canvey Island. Lobster Smack and King Canute were my two local boozers. I used to do Angling Fishing Charters out of Hole Haven Creek, Canvey. Wonderful years.............honesty they really were...

know them all well Graham (Middlesex Street - AKA - Petticoat Lane) I actually pop into the "Smack" occasionally, we go to "Camping and General" as it's just round the corner, you cant see the Thames from the Smack now, sea wall height improvement, you have to climb up a sharp bank now

Small world Al innit', we used to live on Clinton Road, 2nd road on the right going down Haven Road towards the Lobby (Lobster Smack). Had a few in there over the years, super. Thanks for commenting and may I say, it's great to reminice with you about stuff over forty years ago. I believe the King Canute is now closed, we went a couple of years ago, visiting friends still on the island and the King Canute was all boarded up, terrible shame, the pub had history from the floods in 1953. The flood water stopped on the car park of the boozer "The Red Cow" and they then renamed it the King Canute. It's a shame when pubs like that have to close down.
