Gordon Laing, I trust this guy to ALWAYS give a thorough, unbiased assessment of anything to do with photogrpahy equipment. Here is a VERY detailed review with plenty of real-world photos and videos. It is lengthy but he manages to capture your attention so that you'll not even know how much time has passed. So grab a cup of coffee and have fun gaining knowledge about this WONDERFUL bridge camera:
http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Panasonic_Lumix_FZ1000/At the end, he'll also provide information on how this camera stacks up against other bridge cameras. Enjoy!
I just got back from Africa and the camera served me well. Great pictures.

I typically shoot with a Nikon D750, but bought the FZ 1000 to take on a trip to Europe specifically for a day of biking on Palma de Mallorca. You can hold the camera and shoot with one hand - which is kind of important since I needed the other hand to steer the bike - and the picture quality was absolutely amazing. It shoots RAW, has many of the same features as the larger DSLR, in particular bracketing, which I used heavily throughout the day. The images I got out of this camera were really amazing - well worth the cost. Go buy it!
Thanks Billy. I'll check it out!

I think you meant the Lumix FZ1000. If so, that is an excellent fixed lens camera. Someone suggested a review link. Check it out.
Nikon is coming out with a 1" sensor with a 24-500mm zoom lens which is 100mm more than the Panasonic 1000.
You might want to wait on this to see the comparison.

Many thanks BuckeyeBilly :)
It's a winner with the zoom range, sensor and specs. Go for it.
