The Combine. I was highly surprised when this Combine (yep, those big machines normally out in fields) passed us as we merged onto Highway 41. He was flying, and I never realized those things can go that fast.

I'd hate to riding a bike when one of those went flying by.

Well just the noise is enough to give you a big scare. At first I thought I was being abducted by a UFO because of the loud-strange noise that is not common to highway travel.

I'd sure pull over for this. A 26,000 lb. hay squeeze moves right along, too.

I've seen a lot of them, but never on the highway. Begs the question, tho--if they're that fast, why don't we see Combine racing?

Looks like you caught him on the way to a monster truck show, James. He should win hands down.

Until recently most were limited to 15 - 20 MPH. But as farms get larger and fields farther apart the manufactures have increased the travel speed. I know some high clearance sprayers can get down the road at over 40 MPH.

First of all, I love the shot. My hat's off to you for being ready for the unexpected. I can't for the life of me see where the operator is sitting. Have you ever been to a harvester demolition derby? You have to see it to believe it!

Phil

Thanks for all the delightful comments everyone. Sorry, for being away. Our car transmission decided to crap out so I've been busy with that problem. Looks like a gently used car may be in order. Anyway...loved all your posts.
