Hi Chris, I'm getting into this thread a little late here, but I'm curious. As I understand your question, you have been using a point and shoot for some time, but you're now putting a web site together and think you might be able to produce better pup photos for it with a better camera. I wonder what it is about the photos you've been using from your point and shoot you want to improve. Most point and shoot cameras today, even when used in full auto mode, produce photos with technical quality that's more than adequate for use on a web site. If you're also going to make large prints that's another story altogether, but if you expect a DSLR to make much difference in the photos of pups on your web site I think you will be disappointed. On the other hand, if you're really looking for a camera you can also use to learn truly creative photography, a DSLR is probably the way to go. Just one man's opinion.

Here here, this is not the time or place to air your views.
I have the Canon SX30 IS Bridge camera and it is brilliant, does everything without having to mess about changing lenses and the picture quality is great.
Good luck with your purchase and invest well
