Frequently when I click on "print" in PS processing, a window comes up telling me to install a printer first. When this happens the program locks up, and to get out of it, I have to go to m"task manager". Other tomes it works fine and no problems. Anyone???

Welcome aboard.
Does the computer have trouble seeing the printer any other time? Are there any other programs running when this happens as opposed to when it works?
Adobe has a support forum at it's website. You may want to ask there, as well.
Hi No, I printed the photo, and went back after some corrections I made to it, to reprint it, and got this message, "you have to install a printer first". Then when I tried to close the program to restart it, it was locked up.

No I use an Epson 2400 13" printer, and the printer has been excellent. It seems PS is acting up, maybe I should get the new Elements, I am using 9 at present.
Reason I asked about the Kodak printer was I had one that if you used it once, you had to uninstall and reinstall everytime. Gave it away just to get rid of it.

For some reason, printer drivers have been one of the most common problems in digital photography. One of the big problems is obsolete drivers. If you have one problem with a printer, that may be normal. The second time it happens, go to the printer manufacturer's website, download and install the latest driver for your printer and platform. Even if you have the latest driver, reinstall it. If you bookmark the driver site, you can always use this as a check of the printer's communication with the computer. One related point - do NOT use the cheapest USB cable you can buy (assuming that's how your printer connects); get the best. If it's a wireless printer, try using it hardwired.
I also had the problem. It was because my printer was off, which it normally is. Don't do much printer in today's world. When I turned the printer on, Photoshop found it, installed, and has been happily residing on my computer ever since.
Thanks for your reply Bill41. Printer drivers are up to date, in fact I printed a photo, found I needed to tweek it, did so and when to print no printer dialog box come up. only a small box claiming "You must first install a printer before you can proceed." Then the whole program freezes up and I have to go to m"task manager to get rid of it, I think I will take the program out and re-install it, and see what happens. Thanks all.
Depending on your operating system and your computer, often external devices have to be turned on when you turn on your computer and it boots up. With some systems, if you turn on your external device (printer) after your computer is on and booted up, your computer may not see the printer without you re-booting your computer.
Is your printer setup to go to sleep or shut its self off when not in use for a certain time period? If so, you might want to reconfigure that function on your printer, so it doesn't drop out of sight of your computer while you are pausing in your work process.
