I've been using Picasa since it came out. I also have Elements in case I want to do something sexy. So when I read on this Forum that Picasa was going away, at least Google's support, I decided to go with Google Photos. I have somewhere around 45,000 images. I have been uploading my photos for a week now and I have a couple of observations. I have had several times when Google said it couldn't upload one or more pictures, I hit the "try again" feature and somehow it worked. About once a day it stops and in order to start it again I have to restart the PC. My question is has anyone else experienced these issues? Thanks in advance.

I haven't experienced that problem, but I don't load everything to Photos. Anything I take with my cell phone goes there automatically, but not my cameras. I might take ten shots of something and keep one, so I don't want all ten to go automatically to Photos.

What I do is use it for groups of shots I want to share, and I put them into albums and send a link to the people. It's perfect for that.

I decided to buy an external hard drive and simply transferred all of them to it.

Google keeps everything I take. I go through them each day and delete things I don't want them to have..

I recommend buying at least 2 external hard drives and store at least one of them offsite. I now have 3 copies of all my images.I used to have 2, but the 2 duplicating drives of one set of images both failed. A tech at work took them apart but was not able to recover anything from the first one but was able to recover the images from the second one. Having 3 copies at least improves the odds.

Did you not upload to Picasaweb from Picasa all there years? If you did, all your pictures should already be in Google Photos I'd think. Atleast that's how mine works - I have uploaded to Picasaweb and they show up in Google Photos.
