After shooting video for long periods of time my camera has been locking up and displaying the following errors. At one point the camera would not turn off. I removed the batteries, the cards and the lens. I put them all back in/on and the error message came back up. The camera became functional after repeating this process a few times. This camera is 2 months old. I have owned the Nikon D60, D90 and D7000. I have never had these issues.

What does the user's manual say about video recording time?
Looks to me that your battery was at the end of it's charge.. Then you switched batteries, to a fully charged battery. Could be the camera had stop writing info to your card and would not turn of with the new battery until it had finished writing to your card.

Just to throw this out. Is your media card write speed fast enough

Some lenses aperture settings can cause this error if they are not set on the correct position for the auto function to work.
I called Nikon they had me do a 2 button reset and said it was fixed

It is possible that the sensor became overheated after long video sessions and the camera refused to restart until it cooled down. I understand this is a big problem with cameras that shoot 4k video, but could affect one after long runs of HD video too.

yes if you used it a long time and it heats up, it will shut down. Then not restart till its cooled down.
BUT if you had only used it for a short while, then I have no idea. Good luck with it.
I've tested recording five complete sequential 20-minute videos and the camera stopped recording when the battery was depleted. I turned the camera off, replaced the battery, removed the card and ingested the video to my Mac to see how much video was actually captured, including the portion of the last clip before the camera shut down. I reformatted the 128 GB 150MB/s Lexar Professional SDxc 10, II 3 card and was ready to begin recording again. I'm ready to get both an external power source and an Atomos Assassin recorder to remove both the power problem and 20-minute recording limit for HD video. But, the camera never seemed to get hot enough to affect the outcome of my work.
I've was asked by an independent director to do some photography and lighting work on his film. I actually have been doing more filming on the scenes than i thought, that's the reason for the long video times, but most of the scenes have not hit that 20 min limit. I am familiar with the time limit. A lot of stop and starting though in 8-10 hour days. It usually happens after the battery drains. I have a vertical grip on but the error message will pop up before it switches over to the other battery. I have shot a few wedding but this is a first for using my camera like this. I can usually get it to start working after about 5 minutes, battery change and removing everything.
