My first try at HDR Photography

Well this is all new to me shooting with a small camera. I now use a Canon 5D Mark II and an assorment of L series Lenses. I have finally given up my 8x10, 4x5, and 6x7 Camera's. This has been a new adventure in photography and I love it. This particular photo has a 12 stop difference between the highlights and the shadows. I used Photomatix Pro to do all the work. I am open to any suggestions on the process and thanks for looking at my photo.

I don't mean slight, but I don't understand why this is done to photographs.

While I understand the question as I too belive this technique like many editing and enhancments can be overdone I understand that it is often a matter of personal tastes and degrees. As to this picture I would say since I have not as yet tried to do any I can't not really comment as to if it was done by the book, if there in fact is one. I would say that if he/ she who took it is pleased then I can't say he / she should not.

The execution of the technique seems to be even and perfect. Composition is good. If this is your artistic vision, there's nothing technical I can cite as a fault.

LargeFormat, I like this image. Your execution of HDR was very good, excellent composition, I like the milky flow of the water, and detail in this photograph. If your taste is more on the artistic side, than this image meets that criteria. I prefer a more natural look, because that is my taste. Great execution of HDR, keep it going, Arnold

Love your style. There are so many ways at looking at things and this style shows a very beautiful view.

HDR is a tool, not an art form or style!. It is meant to extend the dynamic range, of handicapped digital sensors. But has become very much abused case in point; so that it has turned many away from what is a perfectly usable, and good imaging tool.
