Does anyone on the Forum have any experience with the new NX-D? I upgraded to Windows 10 and was forced to get NX-D (for free). Not being a tekkie of sorts, so far I don't like it at all. I knew my way around NX2 and can't find out how to do certain things as simple as brighten specific areas of an image, like an underexposed face, or darken the sky, etc.. I have downloaded the instruction manual but find it overly complicated and hard to follow. Waiting on a book like Mike Hagen's "After the Shoot" for NX2. Any further suggestions as to good reference material would be appreciated. Thanks.
I downloaded Capture NX-D because it supports the RAW files of the latest Nikon DSLR cameras. I still have Capture NX2 on my computer even though Nikon stopped updating it because it's a great editor and it supports my D90 and D7000. I've been going into Help in NX-D to figure things out. Haven't found a good guide for it.

In some ways NX-D is step backwards from Capture NX2. It will not do adjustments to localized image areas as NX2 does.
NX-D is fairly capable once accustom to it but its not a high end editor. In my opinion it does a better job converting nef raw files than Photoshop although it does not have nearly the same capability.
If you shoot with the latest crop of Nikon DSLRs Capture NX-D and View NX-I* are must have programs but you will need something more to do creative editing.
*may not work with Win 10 Pro; mine does not.
Blue Tick, I updated my NX2 to version 2.4.6 from the NX2 site and now it works with windows 10.

I tried NX-D and hated it. So much was stripped out of NX2. I use NX2 exclusively and will continue to do so until I either get a camera that it does not support, or I die.

I'm using NX-D after using the NX2 that came with a new D3300, not having any problems, but then I don't do a lot with it. For now, I'm more interested in the camera, and although I shoot NEF+JPG, my edits are limited to slightly adjusting exposure, and cropping as little as possible. I'll work on learning and trying more things later!

Yes I got that upgrade info too (not specific to Win10) It's horrible. I went back to the Nikon site and found NX2 still available. So downloaded it... I am much happier now. I think that entire mess was that NX2 was not Nikon but a 3rd party software for Nikon. Nikon got into some kind of dispute with them (Don't know Don't care). Reload NX2 dump NX D.

is NX-2 going to recognize edits made in NX-D?
I think NX-D puts all changes in a single file, while NX-2 puts edits in their own NEF file?
I'm running on Windoz 7 Pro.

Are you talking about view NX2?

Hmmmm, good question. I assumed he was referring to Capture NX2, which I addressed in my reply. Now that I re-read his post, he may be talking about View NX2, which is about the same as NX-D.
Running NX2 v 2.10.3 64 bit on Windows 10 with no problems.

Same here! I run the latest available version of NX2 (2.4.7) w/o issues on Windows 10.
NX-D is not a full-fledged editing program like NX2.
I would categorize it more as an elaborate RAW converter similar to something like DXO Optics Pro.
Please everyone clarify if you are using Capture NX-2 or View NX-2. View NX-2 is a very simple tool. There is a big difference.

NIK Software had created for Nikon Capture NX1 & NX2 which was a for-sale product for Nikon.
Then (I think it was in 2014) NIK Software was bought out by Google which then dropped support for both versions of Nikon Capture.
After the buyout Nikon was forced to find a different software company (Silkypix) to be able to provide at least a basic editor and RAW converter to its customers. That's Capture NX-D which is a free download.

OK, I am running both Capture NX-2 Version 2.4.7 and View NX-2 Version 2.10.3 (both 64-bit) without issues on Windows 10 Home Edition.
