Photo editing on a 27" IMac.

We've switched over from PC based computing to MacBook Pro (wife), and 27" IMac for me. On the old PC, I used Microsoft Digital Imaging Suite 10, and now want to find something comparable for a Mac based system. Hopefully I'll be able to move all my photos from the PC over to Mac without too much trouble. Any suggestions on good photo editing programs? I don't really need the whole photoshop programs, as the complexity of it would be wasted on me. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks! I will look into it. How do you like the OS system?

PSE14 and iPhoto works for me. The 27-inch iMac screen is also a plus.

I'm unclear as to the camera you use but all of them come with software for imagine viewing and retouching. They are also compatible with either PC or MAC platforms. If you don't have the software you can download it from the manufacturers web site.

I use DxO as I don't need all the layers etc of photoshop and find it very straight forward but also allowing for more creativity if and when required.

Light Zone works well, and it is written for Mac. It's also free. Yes, they require you to submit your email address, but I've never heard from then after that. Nor, have I seen an inordinate amount of spam after registering.

Other than that, PS/LR subscriptions are available for a monthly fee.

Apple's photos is not bad for getting started and they give free workshops at Apple stores.

Take a look at Affinity, you can down load the program from the Apple Store. Do the trial version, if you like it, buy it for $49.

I switched from Aperture to Capture One Pro. I now use version 9 and really like it. It is more powerful than Aperture and with a little study easier to use. In addition, Capture One provides a vast supply of free webinars that teach all aspects of the software. You can try to for 30 days.

I switched to a 27" iMac in 2012. Before I had been using a PC with Photoshop. I now use Lightroom 5 on the Mac with excellent results, printing to an Epson Pro 4800. I don't do do any trick stuff and shoot in RAW, making LR5 more than adequate to produce wonderfully bright, crisp prints.
