It depends on how much the camera is worth and how new it is. Call Canon to see if it is worth fixing.
Otherwise, KEH is my favorite source for used equipment, film or digital.
Great people to do business with, very honest and resonably priced. there warranties are also good. Have bought several pieces of Hasselblad equipment from them with no problems. I would recommend them.

KEH is one of the Companies that does authorized service for Canon, Nikon, Pentax, and Olympus.
Sending it to KEH is the SAME as sending it to Canon.

Help please, a friend Canon is suddenly broken. She is considered sending it off to KEH in Smyrna GA, anyone know these folks. What kind of reputation goes here?
Thanks in advance.
Have not had experience with their service department but can attest to the company as a very reputable place to deal with. Have both sold and bought equipment from them with satisfactory results.

KEH has an EXCELLENT reputation. Have used them personally as well.
I bought my used Canon 50D there EX+ rated 2 years ago. There were several bodies in inventory and my rep personally went through them and picked the best one for me. It looks barely used and has served me very well. They are a great source for equipment, good advice, and friendly customer service. I have no experience with heir repairs.

KEH is top notch as a seller of used camera gear! I've purchased from them often.
From your question, I'm not sure if your friend is looking to buy and replace her camera (perhaps sending her broken camera as a trade-in) or if she is thinking of sending it to KEH for repair.
If trading it, there may be some other ways to get more money, even with a broken camera. The dealers have to buy at wholesale prices, in order to turn around and sell things at reasonable prices with some profit.
If planning to have them repair her camera... I have not personally used KEH for that purpose, though I know they do some repairs. They might be fine.
I mostly use Canon's service dept. (though haven't really needed it more than once or twice, thankfully... but I have a couple lenses and two cameras I'll probably be sending to them this week ).
If camera is still in warranty (1 year), I'd definitely send it to Canon.
If out of warranty, there may be some less expensive repairers locally... or some others that folks here can recommend... But even though they aren't the cheapest Canon's service department generally gets quite high marks for fast turn-around, good customer service and reliable work.
Only one experience on a used lens purchase. I was very satisfied with them and the product they delivered.
I've bought and sold through them and they are extremely reliable and professional. No problems and I would highly recommend them.

Great company. Reasonable prices. Generous warranty on used items that are, in my experience, better than the rating they are given. I have not used them for repairs, but the company seems very solid.
