In all of the bridge cameras available, only two have a relatively large 1" sensor. This one, the FZ1000, and the Sony RX10. The Sony is now in version 2.
Also, the Nikon 1 system.
I purchased the FZ1000 right after it came out. The photo quality is comparable to the SX50. The view finder is way better than the SX50. It can't compete with my 5D MarkIII for photo quality. I use the FZ1000 as a carry around camera and for situations where the 5D could get damaged or where pro cameras are frowned upon. It has a bit of a learning curve because of all the new features. At best the Auto & Scene features are ok. Manual or semi Manual modes are the way to go with this camera. I wouldn't get rid of your best DSLR and lenses just yet. Wait to see what your FZ1000 does compared to them.
I bought the 1000 to take to OZ a year ago. I didn't want to bother with a larger camera and three lenses. The camera performed fantastically both with stills and video. I recently picked up a Canon G5X which also is great, but it just doesn't have the reach of the 1000. Enjoy.

Accept that I was referring to "bridge" cameras that usually have a fixed lens with a fairly high zoom ratio lens. Doesn't the Nikon 1 use interchangeable lenses?

In the meantime Bob, While you are waiting for good weather, Use You tube, and type in Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ1000 there are literally hundreds of videos, on both how to, and sample pics, and videos, you will find loads of stuff, settings, and probably things you can do with this camera, that you never thought possible, including converting Raw to JPG in camera There is a Video showing you how to achieve this.
