I am looking for the best protection for the LCD screen on my LX-5.
Is there an data to prove that the glass versions offer better protection that the vinyl stick on variety? Or, vice versa?
I had a Fotga glass on the LX-5 that did an admirable job of saving the screen when the camera fell out of my pocket tonight. Protector shattered but the camera is fine.
Would the vinyl have done just as well and not needed replaced?

Glass will shatter, won't scratch. Vinyl won't shatter, will scratch.
Which one is best depends upon the type of abuse you subject your camera to.

I use Vello glass screen protectors from B&H. Great protection and good value. ;)

When my wife got a smartphone, she ask if I wanted the screen protector it had. Sure, I'll try it.

It was a very good plastic cover that had some kind of clear adhesive which held very good and allowed easy removal.

After some cutting and trimming, I found it had enough sticky to hold on my screen. To make this story shorter, it's been on my camera screen for several years. Works great too. I love it!

I now have another cover from her other cellphone, (she get a new phone in about three or four years), on my other camera.

I have used both but settled on the glass. It is easier to keep clean, doesn't scratch and the corners don't start to peel up.

This is the set I bought in Sept 2013 for my D800e and would purchase them again. Can't tell that there are protectors on and they don't smudge as much as the original lcd screens.

Did your original screensaver come with a warranty? I bought one for my iPhone that came with a lifetime warranty. When I tried putting a case on the phone, the screensaver shattered in one corner. It was replaced under warranty - I just had to pay for shipping.

When I got my D7100, I wanted a screen protector as it didn’t come with the clip-on kind that earlier models did. I didn’t want the vinyl kind. My local camera shop sold me the Promaster LCD screen protector, it was about $12, but I’ve seen them for less. Looks great, can’t tell it’s not glass. The guy said glass would be about $40, but I’ve seen them for less than $20. Had I known that, I’d have gotten glass.
