Those battleships were absolutely amazing. I was on one in Baltimore years ago. The size and power are overwhelming. Unfortunately, with planes, missiles, and torpedoes, their time has passed.

The first image is great as an opening. Using lines of the chains leading us directly to the guns is great composition.

My biggest objection is that you left us hanging. I'm sure you must have more to show!

Great shots!

My father was a sailor on the battleship USS Nevada and participated in the Normandy Invasion. He kept a diary that I've transcribed to a .pdf. If anyone wants a copy send me a PM.

Why didn't you shoot between the uprights in the first shot and not cut into the ship?

Because I could not move the cleat which was the center of the composition.

My brother Nick was next in line to command the "Mo" but they decided to retire it. He was very disappointed. He decided to retire instead of a promotion to Rear Admiral. That would be another 6 year commitment. Thanks for posting, I live about an hour drive time to The berth of the New Jersey. I really need to go visit.

As a kid, the first Navy ship I ever set foot on was the USS Missouri while it was in a port visit to New York City. That visit lead to a thirty year career in the Navy. One of my good friends who is now gone was present on the Missouri during the surrender of Japan at the end of WWII. At one time or another I have been on the USS New Jersey, USS Iowa, USS Wisconsin and the USS Missouri. I wish I could visit the Missouri but it is a long way away from New England in Hawaii.

I found it interesting that the ships names are Wisconsin, Iowa, Missouri, Kentucky was being built, Indiana was planned. See the trend? Got Illinois surrounded. Then New Jersey? What? I suppose there was a powerful senator or some such thing.

When was this picture taken? Back in 1966 or1967 the New Jersey was stationed there in The Long Beach Naval Shipyard. At that time I was stationed in Marine Barracks on the Naval Base until I left the Corp in Sept 1968. We had to provide security for it. At that time it was either on its way or coming back from a tour of Viet-nam.
