The article says they used dozens of metrics in ranking nations. Since the USA isn't on the metric system, that probably hurt us. :D

But really, where would you rather live. Poles can give just about any outcome they are designed to favor.

Washington Post article (since when do they love the U.S.A.?)- since we are No. 4, how come everyone else is breaking through what little border we used to have, to get here? Then, once here, want to change it into what they just left?

Interesting. Not a totally surprising result

Das Germans beat us pretty good. Sadly they thumped us both in "entrepreneurship" and "open for business" categories. Perhaps a result of the prevalent anti-business climate for the last 8 years? ("You didn't build that" )

Also, they smashed us in "quality of life", "citizenship" and "heritage".

We won in "movers", "cultural influence", "adventure" and "power". But it wasn't enough!

It is hard to really put any significance to the surgery without having more detail on the definitions and weighting of the categories.

But it was a fun read. Thanks for posting.

The ranking relied on surveys from 16,248 people from 36 countries in the Americas, Asia, Europe and Africa. Of those, more than 8,000 were "informed elites"

 Can we just stop right there?
