Hi, I have adjusted mine, and it did make a big differense.
These are my settings:
160121 2,5m 6m 15m 100m
150mm 16 16 18 14
250mm 15 8 11 7
400mm 8 -1 6 2
600mm 9 11 9 -1

Yes. I have tuned for various focal lengths AND distances. Distance seems to be the biggest issue.

Could you share how you went about this. I have the dock and fully understand how to use it, but calibrating 16 points on the 150-600 could take me a weekend or more. I just bought LensAlign and Focus tune for Christmas and it is quite a project just to fine tune a prime lens at one distance. Plus, the 150-600 will not work on the normal ruler of the lensalign much over 200 mm. Just wondering if you had any tips to simplify the project.

And for you Hogs using the 150-600 for BIF, what custom settings have you used??? I set C1 for BIF, using quicker focus and OS Dynamic mode. I also changed the focus range to 20 feet to infinity (purely guessing here). Does this sound right since I haven't had a chance to test it yet.

I have the same settings, almost. I use C2 just to help me remember (second gear is faster than first :-) )

I found the lens to be perfect out of the box and did not have a need to fine tune the lens, however there is a firmware update for the 150-600 and my 18-35 Sigma that I applied using the Sigma Hub.

For those of you that own the Sigma 150-600 Sport, I was wondering if anyone has seen a need or desire to fine tune the focus a various focal lengths? I haven't really heard any complaints or concerns right out of the box...so far.

I have however, heard of people being extremely pleased with the IQ performance with no adjustments, then got the USB dock, spent some time adjusting and was even more excited with the results. Most seem to think it outstanding straight from the box.

Has any of you Sport "owners" found this to be true?

Hi, Thanks for your settings. Can you explain to me what those settings mean? Do you think my lens needs to be set to those?

I tuned the auto focus and Vibration Reduction to the most aggressive settings and can hand hold with little no noticeable effect unless I really blow the image up. Haven't done a lot - just enough to try it.

I do BIF with the sigma sport along with stationary birding. (here is a link to my flicker album dedicated to the lens if you want to see some typical results: http://www.flickr.com/photos/petshots/albums/72157651594718397 ) You can click on each pic to isolate it, then click on it again to see it larger.

I realized the lens is more sensitive to distance because as I shot, I noticed birds that were closer were very sharp but birds at a distance were soft. So it was simply trial and error. My lens seems to tend to front focus so I kept pushing the focus back until I got sharp shots out to 100-125 yards. Past that I find its still a crap shoot. No...I have no short cut tips. Other than concentrate on one focal length at a time. But, for me, a lens-align at 100 yards wouldn't be too helpful.

Most of the time i shoot at 600mm. So I worried about that particular focal length first and foremost. Shorter lengths didn't seem to be too bad, so I haven't played with them much.

I have not done any tuning yet, nor do I know if any will be needed. There are videos showing how to do this. As far as I could find, there are no shortcuts but, the potential payoff for the investment of time could be huge. You will need to set aside a good chunk of time to do this. I might suggest concentrating on focal lengths you think you will use most or start at the short (150) end and work your way out or visa-versa. Perhaps it may not even get done all in on session. I may even see if I can load the program to my tablet or laptop so I don't have to run back and forth. Or write down notes and make multiple adjustments at once.

I'm curious what camera body you are using? Some of those adjustments seem like quite a bit.

The first numbers is focal length i.e. 150, 250,400 and 600mm. Each of those has 4 adjustments from very close to infinity, with adjustments of +20 to -20 for each. Someone correct me if I'm in error.

Go here - http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2013/06/sigma-120-300-f2-8-os-sport-part-1-features-and-optics - scroll down the page. This may give you more insight into the different adjustments possible.

I suspect that the 150-600 S changes focus as you zoom - can anyone confirm this ? Also that the focal length gets smaller as you focus closer ? Thanks....

I have customized two things via the dock:
- focus speed - to the fastest
- minimum focus distance - to 30 feet

I did this for only one setting bank. I shoot a lot of birds in flight and I found with the default minimum distance the search range was too great and it difficult to lock on to flying birds. I am still experimenting to identify optimum parameters.

Of course you can always switch to default to bypass these adjustments.

I also updated the firmware. When I first got this lens it would sometimes "chatter" when autofocusing. The firmware upgrade resolved this.

I shoot it primarily on a Nikon D4s.
