Epimenides was a Cretan who made one immortal statement: "All Cretans are liars."
A paradox of self-reference arises when one considers whether it is possible for Epimenides to have spoken the truth.

All 10 fish are left in the tank.
- fish do not drown
- they can't swim away

Then there is the variation on a similar theme:
- 5 birds sitting on a branch
- I shoot 1, so how many are left?
Answers:
- none; 1 is dead and the other 4 flew away
- 1 -- the dead one (hanging upside down?)
- all of them -- 4 wondering why their buddy is hanging upside down
- 4 -- wondering where their buddy went in such a hurry and a small flurry of feathers

(makes as much sense as some of the other answers)
