Sony A6000 successor vs. Fuji xT1
Fuji, as of right now, does not have a really long lens. I think 100-400mm is in the works (that's a cropped sensor, so a 600mm equivalent). Currently the longest you can get is a 50-140mm lens with 1.4x teleconverter. But that is one awesome lens (f/2.8).
X-T1, current top Fuji, is a fantastic camera, with everything easily accessible, plus a "Q" (quick) menu where you can decide what to put in it.
You really should try it to see how it feels for you.
Oh, yes, and gorgeous images...
As far as weather sealing goes, Op Tech and other companies make rain sleeves for cameras such as the A6000. So you are not totally weather defenseless with that camera.
Try any you are considering. The Sony replacement, when it comes, will likely have a similar menu and control operation approach compared with the alpha 6000. Chances are you will like one's operating system better than the others.

The official word I got from Sony at CES this year is that NO A6000 successor is currently in the works, the recent firmware update they released supposedly increased the cameras functions significantly so no near future update is planned.
Very disappointing. I have only one issue with the a6000 and that is the lack of a 3.5mm microphone jack. Perhaps someone will create an adapter, but not yet.
I have been considering the A6000 for Airshow videos but was
discouraged by the great expense of long telephoto lenses. But
I was impressed by the A6000 Manual by David Busch, buying it
from Barnes and Noble. He has the best explanation of video set
-up and the rolling shutter problem that I have read.It has led to
me experimenting with 60frames/sec and shutter speeds of
1/250th sec. or greater with my Canon 70D and STM lenses. I hope this will solve the autofocus problem I described in my Sept 2015 posts. I am waiting for the cloudy, poor visibility and the
low ceiling conditions to try at the local airport. I would welcome
any suggestions from 70D video shooters. Increasing the shutter
speed was suggested by a 7D II user to my previous posts.
Dfrost I am in the same predicament and time schedule. And I am also going to Alaska in July. I own a D7100 and love it and have no problem with using it for car trips but it's cumbersome for airline travel and my 3 main lens I like to bring along. So I tried a friend's a6000 for a few days and really liked it. But I thought I needed a more solid camera and actually bought the XT1 after playing with it at Photo Plus expo in October. I returned it a week later. I decided I did not like the operating system and 16 mp sensor. I do like to magnify and crop often enough that I was concerned about the quality of the final prints.
So I am also playing the waiting game and if there is nothing new from Sony by June I will buy the a6000. And then you can be sure some new will be released a week later. LOL
Tigger 1: I am going to Alaska to Lake Clark to photograph the grizzlies. In Africa, I will spend a week in each of Botswana, Namibia, and Kenya. I'll be focusing on the animals mostly, except in Namibia where I'll be photographing the indigenous people and the sand dunes.
Amkras: That's sort of what I'm thinking now also.
I spent 2 weeks in Alaska last summer and took 90% of the pictures that I took with my Fuji XT-1 an my Fuji 18-135 lens. Both the camera and lense were WR (weather resistant) and I was very happy with the outcome.
For those playing the waiting game for the A7000/A6100 remember the A6000 is not going away when the new product comes out. So it will be and is still is a great chose for the future even with the new A7000/A6100. The cost may even come down with sales. So either way it is good.
Update on Fuji -- the 100-400mm lens is out, AND it can use the 1.4x converter, which makes it a 840mm FF equivalent.
That lens plus the new XPro-2 will make an excellent combination.
And it will certainly lighten your pocketbook :)
