I have only seen but not used my daughter's new camera--GoPro Hero. She usually (lately) uses her iPhone 6s for still & video. Recently she & I saw a several-minutes' travel video taken in Thailand with a GoPro Hero. I'd like to see discussion on this camera, please.
Go use it you will be amazed at what it will do!

Had one, did not use it properly.
Gave it to a friend's kids and they created an interesting video with it.
My insight? It is not for everyone and I certainly was not 'one' to be able to use it.
I have had a Hero3+ for over a year now. It's a fun little camera to play with. Still images are so so, video is very good. I have done a couple of time lapse video projects with it. In image mode you can take 30 shots/sec which worked pretty good when I was doing water droplet shots. It also has a setting that allows video and still captures at the same time. At times, I have mounted it on top of an extendable paint pole to get aerial views in crowds, etc. I have carried it in my hand to get street shots without being noticed etc. Accessories are expensive. Their free editing software is buggy, but hey, it's free. Overall, it a pretty neat little camera. One just has to get creative with it.

Great little device. There are cheap imitations, if you're hesitating about spending hundreds.

My wife got me one for a trip about a year ago. My main complaint about it is that the camera works with only 3 buttons and I find it hard to remember which one does what. I'm always turning the camera on or off when I want to just change from vids to still or vice versa. I can't knock the results, they're great, but I think it's a product designed for young people by young people. It gets even more frustrating for me when I try to use the remote.

If you have a IPhone you can sync your phone with the GOPro. This way you can use your Phone's screen to see what your shooting as well as make changes to the Gopro via the Phone App. etc

Yes, that's very frustrating. I think they made some improvements in that area in each new model, and the newest ones have a view screen.
Picked a GoPro 3+ Silver Edition up at BJs for $199. I've been thinking of a Disney trip and thought this was the best way to take video and stills. Mounting the camera to my hat during some of the rides was my ultimate goal.
Still haven't been to Disney but I am having fun using it. There are three setting for video, wide, normal, and narrow. Narrow gives more of a zoom, while wide is really wide.
My issue was not seeing what was recording without using my smartphone, so I bought the LCD Touch BacPac that let's me see what is being focused on and allows for playback also. It cost $80 from GoPro.
I like that it is small and can fit easily in my pocket. I often pull it out of my pocket when I see something interesting happening.
The quality is very good and has a setting that helps in low light.
If you have the money and the interest, it's a nice little unit to have at your disposal when needed. PS, make sure you have at least two batteries.

One nice thing about the GoPro is the variety of mounts available. I wouldn't want to have one mounted on my hat during a ride, though.
On a recent cruise someone was wearing one on his wrist in a housing. I first thought it was a very serious looking waterproof watch for diving.
