You assume that I did not. You would be incorrect. As I indicated,"...it escaped my attention". Read my post.

Well, I did the unthinkable. I downloaded and read the owner's manual for your printer I got all the way to page 9 when I found this.

"When you press the Power button to turn off the
printer, the printer automatically puts a protective cap
on the Print Head to prevent the ink from drying. If you
remove the power plug before the Power lamp goes
out, this capping will not be done properly, causing the
Print Head to dry and clog."

Thank you, I have the Pro-10 and assume the same applies to it, but did not know that. I did discover the hard way (wasting nearly a whole set of ink) that using a 720dp monitor affected the ability to get the colors right. When I bought a 1080 monitor my photos improved markedly. No idea why.

I think that answers the question.

Bill, this is great information that had previously escaped my attention. Thanks a lot.

Mine, too. I have a Pro-100 and I just leave it on even though I don't print very often. I guess I should just start turning it off and saving energy.

I bought a Cannon pixma pro 100 printer a few weeks ago. My dilemma is I travel for work quite a bit, and am being told two different ways I should leave the printer.

1- Turn off but leave plugged in.

2- Just leave it on and plugged in.
any help to clear this up would be appreciated.

Tom

Depends on how often you print. if you are printing daily, leave it on, if you are printing weekly or less, turn it off.

This has been an interesting little discussion for me. I have one of these printers. I set it up and, as someone else said, I print infrequently. My printer will turn itself off but does not automatically turn back on. I have to touch the power button to turn it back on. So I guess I should be physically turning it off each time?

if it is turning itself off, manually turning it off each time would be optional, would get the same result either way.

Does anyone know if the Pixma Pro9500 Mark II has similar features?

As do I. I just my printer only once every ten days, on the average. Hearing that the 100 has a protect-mode for the print heads from drying out, I was wondering if anyone knew of the Pro 9500Mk2 had similar protection.

I love Canon printers and their support staff. And thanks n64uw for your responding to my question.
