Do you have an old slide that you don't know why you're keeping? Punch out the film. Now you have a really light, fits in your pocket framing aid.
Want something lighter? Form a rectangle with your fingers.(they also fit in your pocket) :)

From the wiki article it appears that there is a director's viewfinder app for both android and iOS.

I took a workshop with Ansel Adams in 1972. He taught his students to use a viewing frame. It enables you to turn it horizontal or vertical and use it close to visualize a wide angle lens, medium distance for a normal ens and full arms length a telephoto. It trains your eye to see in frames. The Ansel Adams frame was made out of the tickness of a file folder with a 4 x 5 opening. Try it you may like it. It has trained my eye and as I scan a landscape I can now visualize Horizontal or Vertical, wide angle, medium lend telephoto lens opportunities.

You will be amazed. After using it a while, your eye will start to see things in frames Horizontal and Vertical. Recently I saw an advertisement on TV where the guy used a frame to scan the landscape.
