To Scale: The Solar System
Explanation: Want to build a scale model Solar System? A blue marble 1.4 centimeters (about half an inch) across would be a good choice for a scale model Earth. Since the Sun is 109 times the diameter of Earth, a 1.5 meter diameter balloon could represent the Sun. But the distance between the Earth and Sun, 150 million kilometers, would translate to just under 180 meters (590 feet) at the same scale. That would mean the completed project, including the orbits of the outer planets, is probably not going to fit in your backyard. Still, you might find enough room on a dry lakebed. Check out this video for an inspirational road trip through the Solar System to scale.

As a very Amateur Astronomer, it is my pleasure.
My scope. 8 inch celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain light bucket. Love it.

Wow, great video, thanks.
Never seen a scale model such as this before. Man, does that change the typical perspective or what? Very informative
GREAT! I can't wait to show this to my grandson. Thanks for posting this. Very cool beans.
Learn something new and different every day. You helped me accomplish that today. Thank You
Now if this doesn't make you (and your petty problems) seem kinda small, I dunno what will!
I was afraid of that... they left off Pluto and the Kuyper belt! Poor Pluto, the never should have downgraded its status. ;)
When you look at it in that perspective and then think how the gravity of the sun can affect a planet so far away. Truly mind boggling.
