Good point. Maybe the quality has improved since I gave up 8mm. But in transferring old films to video, screening them for the first time in years, I was struck by two things...the lousy quality of the images and the necessarily short takes. As I recall a new roll of film only gave you 5 minutes shooting total.

Also more emulsions will be introduced by Film Ferrania in Italy . They have plans for Super 8 and 16mm E-6 film as well as E-6 in a variety of still film sizes.

I'm gonna call GM and find out when they plan to revive the '57 Chevy! I'll even let you guys with your Super 8's shoot video of it! Then we can get together and reminisce about getting out of bed in the morning without creaking and groaning!:)

Are we going to see a retro revival of home movies like the puzzling revival of vinyl records? Why would anyone want to use a bulky old silent Super 8 film camera when you can take high quality video with stereo sound even on a cell phone?
What's next? An updated Commodore 64?

Don't knock it! Before long all those teenagers will be dumping their smart phones for Super 8 cameras! Take my word for it. BTW, if you want some hot stock tips, just PM me!

Seriously though, it is good to see some of the old products return. There are still a lot of people who enjoy using them.

I have a Bell&Howell Super 8 Autoload Model 431,and it's in a nice case. I wonder if it has any avlue?
I guess I'll have to throw it away.
I've been making more room in my attic.

But other than nostalgia, why???

Ask Spielberg, JJ Abrams, Martin Scorsese, Wes Anderson, Christopher Nolan, Tarantino why they use film.

But that's different. I know professionals prefer the artistic qualities of film. It's much like back in the still darkroom days, we had our favourite papers or developers and the differences were often very subtle and very personal. But the distinctions were lost for snapshots.
But 8mm movies are not a pro medium. Back before professional videotape, there was a effort to use Super 8 film for television news work.(The standard had been 16mm SOF.) But it never went anywhere and videotape became the standard because it was easier, quicker and cheaper.

I had a Regular-8 then a Super-8 camera when I was in the Navy back in the '60s. Had to buy mailers to get the film processed.

That brings back memories. I was stationed at Pensacola in late 50's-early 60's. I remember sending my 8mm film to Chamblee, Georgia to get it processed. A few years ago I had it put on CD' s so I could watch it.

The problem is availability of projectors. I still have my old one and it works well, but if the bulb burns out what do I have? Most people are transferring old super 8 to DVD's. Now what?

What the fudge? I started out with Super 8 in 1973. I still have cans of Super 8 movies, and now I'll have to check if my splice tape held up over the last 40 years. I also have soundtracks, semi-synchronized, on cassette tape.

Yeah, I was really into that as a 13 year old.

Let me know when Kodak brings back 110 film, so I can start shooting film 4/3 again.

Yes, regular super 8, in 3 different emulsions, is back and available almost immediately. Gee, I guess I will have to quit giving away all those old Super 8 cameras in the store now?
It will come with a processing envelope included. (Anyone else remember those??)

Now if Kodak would only bring back Kodachrome 25 35MM.

"With a gorgeous new design, interchangeable lenses and a brilliant scheme for development and delivery of footage, this camera appears to be the perfect bridge between the efficiency of the digital world and the warmth and quality of analog.”
I wonder what mount - something new, m4/3, C, ???

Nice dream but I saw a video that described the equipment and process for developing for Kodachrome. They might be able to make it but processing would never be remotely economically possible unless you can devise a virus that will infect and destroy every digital sensor on the planet.
