Yes, regular super 8, in 3 different emulsions, is back and available almost immediately. Gee, I guess I will have to quit giving away all those old Super 8 cameras in the store now?
It will come with a processing envelope included. (Anyone else remember those??)

Display placard, the Kodak rep assured me it was REAL!

Yep. It is fantastic!

Not only that but Kodak's cinema film division is predicted to be profitable in 2016.

Kodak is bringing out more new films as well, even as Fuji is dropping some of theirs.

As I recall the Kodak film division was bought out and is being run by ex Kodak employees. I certainly hope that the introduction of new products bodes well for their future. Many of those folks who lost their jobs at Kodak were friends and neighbors.

As long as they keep their museum intact it's all good. A lot of history and heritage there.

Have you heard about the new 8mm film camera Kodak announced? I posted about it this morning.

Not the cinema division that is still owned by EK. Kodak Alaris markets and sells still films and other finishing products. All film is still produced by EK

Thanks for correcting my error. I did not realize that EK still had the cinema division.

Are we going to see a retro revival of home movies like the puzzling revival of vinyl records? Why would anyone want to use a bulky old silent Super 8 film camera when you can take high quality video with stereo sound even on a cell phone?
What's next? An updated Commodore 64?

Silent? The camera records sound to an SD card. In addition Kodak offers scanning when they process. This gives you a digital file, as well as the actual film and a digital file of the sound.

Also I understand that the registration and film gate has been vastly improved which give far better quality than the Super 8 that most are familiar with.

Still film sales are up and new films are being introduced.

Difference of media. Why still have oil paints when acrylics dry faster and easier to clean up? Why make lithographs when you can make inkjet prints?

I had a Regular-8 then a Super-8 camera when I was in the Navy back in the '60s. Had to buy mailers to get the film processed.
