I use Samsung Pro 32 GB cards in mine and they are rated up to 80 MB/s write speed and 90 MB/s read... at 22.00 for 32 GB they are not bad....they have been as low as 17.00 when I bought mine!

I bought 2 Sandisk Extreme (Pro?) 95 MV/s at B&H on sale a couple of months ago. I think I paid around that price for each.
I do shoot RAW & in bursts so I was looking for something even faster.
Guess I'll just have to upgrade my camera in a few years.

Generally speaking for still photography, get a card with a GB storage close to the megabits number of your camera.

Eg:
16mb camera = 16gb card
20mb camera = 16gb or a 32 GB card
24mb camera = is leaning towards a 32gb card.
... and so on.

As for speed, it really depends on how many pics you take and if you're in a hurry. Burst photography, (and video), you want a faster card but it's mainly for speed of downloading to your computer with a larger quanity of pics.

I believe UHS I & II bus speeds max out at 104 MB/s and UHS 3 tops out at 312 MB/s.

I think that the UHS 3 cards also have an extra rows of contacts, so if you use it in an older reader or device, those extra contacts are not used, and the speed drops dramatically from the UHS 3 speed.

Sandisk or Lexar are my brands. Both sell 32gb cards at a read speed of 95mbs and at a reasonable price. For my D7100, the speed makes a difference in emptying the buffer. Other brands may be good too, but these are the two I've been buying for years.

I get a real kick from these discussions about memory cards. The price of memory has fallen so low that it should no longer be an issue in considering card size. Many of the folks participating in this forum have thousands of dollars tied up in their cameras, lenses and accessories. And yet the discussion of price and card size predominate. I say get a bigger card than a smaller one - and go for the best performing ones - you'll be able to afford it! Tell me where I'm going wrong.

Not saying your wrong, to each his own, but for me, I want the fastest speed for burst shooting, and I want to spend the least amount of money necessary, still getting quality items, I also want the most space up to a point. I have never filled a 32 GB card, but at one point I was using 64 GB cards that were very fast - problem was that the 64 GB card crapped out just after transferring a large shoot - I lost nothing, but the card could have crapped out prior to transferring the images and all may have been lost. 64 GB is a lot of eggs in one basket so to speak :)

After that 32 is my maximum size - and I would much rather pay $20.00 a card so I can buy several vs. $75.00 a card where I can only buy one at a time - after all I am on an allowance ;)

I totally agree why purchase a camera with a fast processing chip and then slow it down with a bargain basement memory card that will not allow for the camera to operate at a faster rate, especially when moving your shots to your computer

I recommend high quality name brand. The cheap ones don't last in Dslr's. And make sure it is high speed,to prevent lag when taking multiple shots. The higher quality, the better the results.

I agree wholeheartedly with DNGallagher.
There was a discussion here a while back and many of us agreed that multiple small cards (16-32gb) are better because if you're out in the field and that 64gb or larger craps out you've lost a lot of pictures.

Of course - each to his/her own. Modern memory cards by major manufacturers are EXTREMELY reliable. I prefer to know that I can't fill my card! That way I am always sure of not missing a shot because memory is full. I also transfer whatever images are on the card to a hard drive after every usage and format the card. And, yes, I do carry backup cards and backup batteries.

You don't say what you enjoy or specialize in shooting, (but you mention speed). For a good few years I've ONLY bought Sandisk SD Cards, - usually Sandisk Extreme; (there are at least 3 "flavours" of Sandisk extreme - including their Extreme Pro - which costs more. If you don't need blisteringly fast read/write speeds/don't tend to shoot a lot of HD video on your DSLR then the Sandisk Extreme cards are excellent - and 32GB seems to be optimum value in terms of price & capacity. I've also started buying Transcend Ultimate SDHC cards. Both the above have proved fast, reliable & good value-for-money.
