Part of Christmas was spent at Myrtle Beach to be with family, but I still managed to sneak in a little time with my camera. On the last day, I got up early to see what might lie in store at Myrtle Beach State Park for sunrise. Storms through the night meant leaving the hotel in the dark with lingering clouds. But it was one of those 'now or never' opportunities. As the sky lightened I was struck by a strange cloud formation that could best be described as "the whale's tail"--how befitting the location!

Nice shots...and it doesn't take long for things to change.
Super-appealing composition! Very enjoyable to see the changes in clouds and light.

It sure doesn't, Bret--not only in clouds, but in life! Hope your new year is productive and healthy. :-D

Hi Linda! I like that spot with the waterway coursing through--I discovered it several years ago while with friends and stored it in the back of my mind until 'one day..' Sure would have liked to see prettier cloud layers, but any color was a gift after the days of rain. I did get to the marshlands to shoot some egrets and the sun was in and out that day, too. However, the fog was apealing in that scenerio. Glad you dropped in!
Very appealing composition and the colors are great - beautiful but natural.

The weather was intriguing over the Christmas Holiday...Cherry Grove beach was fogged in so bad you could barely see the water... but a foggy day at the beach is better than no day at the beach. Myrtle Beach State Park is a great place to visit.....they also allow horseback riding on the beach late November through the end of February. I am fortunate that I live in North Myrtle Beach and can go down to the beach anytime....Great shots......

I appreciate the compliment, Carol--I never know how the colors are going to look on various monitors so it's reassuring to get the positive feedback. Thanks, and happy new year to you!

Sure wish I'd known about the horseback riding on the beach, DB, as one more ride before I die is on my bucket list. Had horses for 50+ years and miss them sorely. Although my daughter lives in Little River, I've only been getting down once a year. I may try to return in March if it works out. It would be fun to meet a fellow enthusiast--bet you know wonderful places to photograph!
