I'd say Canon, but to be honest you must get hands on the camera your buying! Your buying into a long term relationship, get a feel first. Of course I prefer Canon, tried holding a NIkon about 40 years ago and never went back, oh I've held Nikons, my daughter owns one, prefers my Canons, Nikon is a good camera, so are Pentax, can't comment on others haven't tried them, highly suggest buying somewhere you can return if things don't feel right after you get home, Bob.

I agree with your comments. I also like the Canon, have 5 of them.

I like that:
"Nikon is the leader when it comes to compatibility among cameras and lenses of different decades. Most of today's lenses are compatible with ancient cameras, and most ancient lenses can be made to work fine on today's digital cameras."
That is true of Pentax also. The kit lenses I have from the Pentaxes I got in 1979 and 1984 work just fine on the Pentax I bought six months ago.

lolololo No, I responded to the posting. That I am sure it is allowed and encouraged. This open PUBLIC format and not only does it allow for it but it is this open format what makes it attractive. So where are the rules? Who made you the UHH Nazi? Is that something you had to apply for and test? So it is your job, a self anointed position, to go around and label that which is appropriate and not what is rude or not? Do you know how ridiculous you sound and appear? It is the zenith of hypocrisy tell us what is or is not appropriate when this lead us to a discussion of that which is not even the topic of which you claim to abhor. How ridiculous. What a lie. What is it, do as I say not as I do?

You are simply just a disgusting individual who tries to operate under the veil self righteous indignation. Give us a break. So go on to school playground and beat up some kids. I am sure that's where you'll gain a sense of righteousness and personal fulfillment.

We have ourselves the "UHH Nazi" - everyone please beware.

Forget the Ford and Chevrolet. Get a Ferrari, then hair color is no longer a factor!

Just some advise as a guy who entered the hobby a year and half ago, what you start with will be your camera forever. If you already have access to Canon lenses, then that helps sway your decision towards Canon. I am a Nikon guy myself, and I have had multiple upgrades until finally reaching my first full frame camera, Nikon D600. I have had great success buying used on eBay. Make sure the seller has a long history on eBay though. My used D600 was not much more costly than my original new D3200. Final advise is to buy smart. I have bought a lot of lenses that seemed like a great deal but now are collecting dust. Save your money and invest in quality lenses that work well in low light situations (f2.8 or better). Good luck with this wonderful hobby.

Advice from a guy who has been in the hobby for roughly forty years now - don't be afraid of making a mistake, because you can always change your mind.

I got my first SLR, a Pentax, in 1979; after that camera had an unfortunate encounter with water spray at Niagara Falls, I bought another Pentax in 1984. At that point I thought I was "Pentax forever".

When auto-focus came out, though, I liked the Canon approach much better than the Nikon and Pentax approaches, so in 1995 I moved over to Canon. I did really like the Canon system, so when I bought my first DSLR in 2007, I continued with a Canon Rebel. At that point I thought I was "Canon forever".

But the Rebel died prematurely, and so did it's replacement , so as of this summer I am back with Pentax.

Yes, I've left some lenses behind, but in business school (I have an MBA) I learned that "sunk costs" (the money you've already spent) cannot control future decisions; future decisions must be based on future benefits and future costs.

In those roughly forty years, I've discovered that my style of photography never has demanded the fastest lenses in existence. Even when I was using Kodak's wonderful ISO=25 slide film, I coped with slower lenses; perhaps that is why my costs were limited when I switched systems. Today's systems deliver good results at ISO levels that would have been considered insane just a decade ago, so lens speed may become less of an issue as time goes on.

So, my advice to you is to make a modest start. Get a camera you are comfortable with and a lens or two. Try various things and over time determine how your current system is limiting you. Make future purchases based on what you wished you had this time around. But, above all, have fun.

Personally, I don't see a problem with that situation, more of an advantage in fact. That, however, could be another story!

Sony makes the best mirrorless cameras.

But the Sony A77II is a MUCH better sports camera than the 7DII for nearly HALF the price. And it shoots faster, has better autofocus and a far superior AF system to the D7200...again, for SUBSTANTIALLY less money.

FYI: Just last Sunday, (Dec 27, 2015), I covered the Nashville Titans vs the Houston Texans with press pass to help my daughter (She's a sports writer). There must have been a couple dozen other still camera photographers.

With exception to the TV and Stadium photographers that used pre-established camera setups being all Canons, I noticed four independants using Sony cameras as a 2nd camera with a wide to mid zoom on all of them. There main dslr's were about one third Canon, with the rest using Nikons.

Another interesting thing. It seemed every other photographer was only doing their job, if you know what I mean. Then there was me using my two Pentax dslr's. Although I could not read others minds, I was about the only person taking photos just for the love of photography!

Most will agree the 7D is better for action and such activities as you expressed. and in your case all EOS lenses used with this camera will function as designed with no restrictions so there is a large pool of used lenses and no worry or chart as to if it is compatible or not. It is compatible. Also you can borrow lenses from your grandfather if he lets you and they all will work perfectly with your 7D.
