I am looking for a pocket size DSLR with at least 16 mp. I saw on the Nikon refurbished site that the Coolpix A is selling for under $300. I also seem to remember that they may be retiring that model in favor of something else.

The only drawback I see is that there is no zoom. My question is as far as landscapes and family type pictures, does the absence of any zoom matter to those of you that have the camera?

Thanks for your help, as always.

I have one, great IQ and I zoom with my feet. IMO one of the best compact camera.

Any idea what the new one (s) will be called? I have the Coolpix A and like it even with it's drawbacks. I keep it in the glove compartment so I always have a camera with me that shoots RAW. Photos are quite good and it's pretty compact.

No zoom means you have to adjust the distance to the subject with your feet to make the subject fit in the frame. If that is doable then the absence of zoom does not matter.

Would be nice if it were so easy. 'Zooming with your feet' changes the perspective and therefore the composition. It doesn't always matter, but sometimes it does, and then you've got to crop if the focal length is too short.

I was looking for a pocket size camera and chose the Nikon Coolpix 130AW. It has been a great camera so far to carry in my pocket and use instead of hauling the D7200 all the time. It meets all of your requirements i.e small, 16MP, and it is under $300. Today $276 and pocket change at Amazon. one of the features I like is it is waterproof down to 100 ft. What more could you ask for?

It has a fixed 28mm F2.8 (equivalent) lens. It does have the same APS-C 16.2MP sensor as was used in the D7000 DSLR body, its a very good sensor. It will also shoot RAW, has a hotshoe, and does Full HD Video with a stereo mic. Its already discontinued and replacement(s) are due by Spring 2016. The $299 refurb price also carries a 10% discount right now as well as free shipping making it $269. Very good quality images if you can live with the fixed focal length lens.

That's not a good choice . It's like a 42mm on a senseor the size of the d7000
Pick up a used or refurb d3200 and a 18-105 mm kit lens that's equal to a
27 - 154 mm on a DX and there not a bad len's . Good for house party . And
Around town shots . And head potrat shots . And you can pick up that camera
And len's for very little if your carfull . I have seen those cameras selling $200
And that len's for $150 . Or any of the early canon rebels same thing

You clearly have not followed this thread, nor researched the camera so why are you posting????
I just ordered one, I think it may be a good camera to shoot my trip to the CES show with. Small and compact, high res sensor, at least I am willing to test it before making uninformed statements. Try it sometime, it pays to have real knowledge of things so you can make intelligent comments.

Yea pocket size . That is a ok one . Any refurb you choose that is in the range you want and the price you want would be good deal . It's not that much of a loss if it doesent turn out for you . As they say just get back on ,
