Using a Wacom tablet

I have spent the last 2 years training myself to use many of the features in Photoshop, especially layers and masks. Before that I did everything on the base picture. About 6 months ago I decided to buy a Wacom tablet. My understanding was it would make several procedures much easier and precise but with a long training curve. Well I tried to use it for about a week and then set it in the closet. Last week I thought I need to sell it or spend more time and learn how to use it effectively. Again had a blockage. Then I saw this YouTube video.

Now it is making more sense and learned my biggest problem was my set up sensitivity and this video helped. I shot the attached picture on my dinning room table using 2 white boards. I didn't like the line between the boards. I know I could have used a bigger piece of paper and made a sweep with it but didn't have it. Anyway I tried to remove the line on the left using just the mouse. It seamed to work ok but I couldn't do the same with the right. After seeing the video and learning about interaction with "opacity" and "flow" settings I achieved what I wanted on the right side. I spent a lot less time on the right side using the tablet. Thought others on the Hog might have gone through similar learning curves.

Good work as well as nice photo! I love my tablet and use it a lot but never took the time to learn all the bells and whistles. I'll be watching the video you suggested - thanks for the link. Looking forward to picking up some good tips!

The YouTube link is just a getting started video and the basics for using with Photoshop. My problem I never got comfortable using from the start. I originally set it up under another guys advise and settings. His settings were just to sensitive. I have a lot more to learn using the tablet buttons.

Jim,
That was the same with me. I purchased a tablet and was really impressed with the free learning curve that came with it.

I will say that it is exceptionally valuable with certain PP I do. Some of the PP I do most of the time, the mouse works just fine.

Wacom tablets are one of your best investments.
