Like one of your comments, few shoot both Canon and Nikon. I am a Canon guy and I rented a 5DSR for a couple of weeks for a trip to spain. Shot about 2000 frames. Shot it and a 5Dmk3 and I can tell you it is a really nice camera. Not as good in low light as the mk 3, but the resolution was awesome and it creates really big files. A seven shot pano came in at 960 mb. Don't worry about using your lenses. I used several different lenses - some on the recommended list and some not - all Canon "L" lenses and they all gave outstanding results. Saving my $$ now and will get one before summer hopefully. My Nikon friends claim that their high end Nikons have better dynamic range; that may be true. I shoot a lot of HDR and while I let the camera merge the three shots, I usually end up re-doing it in photoshop or other programs after I am home.
Good luck

My concern with the new Canon would be if anyone makes a lens that can properly handle Canon's new 50 megabyte camera without increasing the size of the sensor too ?

See my other comment. all my Canon lenses worked great with the 5DSR. Want to see some, send me a PM; I posted a bunch after I was back from Spain, but they are probably long gone.

Has anyone purchased one of Canon's new high megapixel camera models and compared it to Nikon's D810 ? If you have, please share your thoughts about the new Canon model.

Thanks !

Cannon 5DSR has higher resolution but more noise at higher ISO.
Nikon D810 has higher dynamic range at low ISO.
Sony A7RM2 is in the middle on both resolution and dynamic range and has the advantage of what-you-see-is-what-you-get and eye autofocus.

If you buy all three you can have the best of tool available for any situation, however no one will be able to tell which is which by looking at the photos you take.

Grandpa, a 50 mp camera has more resolving power using any one lens, than that same lens mounted to a lessor mp camera. Hence, your photography will see an improvement in the small details of a pic made with the higher mp camera.

The bigger question is...., if you are a real photographer, you will realize some gains with more mp. If you are just into the minutiae of comparing white papers and just occasionally taking snapshots, you will not likely realize any advantages, even if the differences are there.
If your style of photography demands more mp, then you need more mp!!! If not, just shoot what you have!! ;-)

Substitute the D750 for the D810, run the comparison (do this in any previously suggested comparison also) and get ready for a shocking result.

Grandpa, a 50 mp camera has more resolving power u... (show quote)

FYI....If the D7100 were a full frame camera, it would be a 55mp camera.

So, it would seem that, any lens that is capable outstanding resolution on a 24mp APS-C crop, should have plenty of resolving power for a 50mp FF because they both have roughly the same pixel density.

Canon has the lenses listed that perform the best with this high megapixel camera but many users have indicated that good glass is essential. Why would anyone have low end glass on a high end body though?

Haydon, I'm using the 5s and I'm using the same glass I was using on my 5ll and the results have been nothing short of spectacular.
But better glass would also give you better results on a Rebel as well!
When better glass comes out, it will be better on the 5s, but also on every entry level camera that Canon makes.
I think that Nikon enacted a well placed scare tactic to sell more lenses, and a slough of mostly scared amateurs ran out and bought the trilogy!!! Mostly not necessary!
Of course, better glass is always better, but for every camera, not just big mp cameras.
Sure, Canon has been busy remodeling their lens line, but I'm sure it had to do more with the fact that technology marches on and the 5s is just the latest benificiary of that lens revamping.
I remember reading from Canon that a lot of the new mkll lenses had more to do with being more prepared and better suited for Video than for still photography, along with the mark lll extenders to optimize the new focus electronics than much better IQ. Better IQ(a higher MTF value) has always been a prerequisite when replacing an older lens design.
Anyway, I did a shoot today, maybe I'll post something to indicate the performance of both the 5s and cheap glass!!!!

Sure, but why put a crop lens on a FF camera?
