Looking for recommendations for headlamps for night and low light photography. I have macular degeneration and need light to see camera functions. I have magnifying glasses, but light is a necessity as well. I'm sure there are others with this problem who have found solutions. Thanks in advance.

I use a Black Diamond LED. It also has incandescent mode but recently, I saw one that had a couple of red light modes which would be real handy. I don't know how that would work with your condition but go with the LED either way as they are easy on batteries.

Nat, consider this very bright light from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-hands-free-headlight-Rechargeable-batteries/dp/B016Q8G9OU/ref=lp_3401361_1_2/180-4014716-8717716?s=outdoor-recreation&ie=UTF8&qid=1449804048&sr=1-2

Most cameras now-a-daz have a screen that show the functions. If you sine a light on it then if will blot out the radiated image. Upping the brightness of the screen is a menu selection. One solution, based on similar need of seeing screens in the sunlight:

Something else to look at would be at your local sports outlet be it WalMart, Dick's Cabela's, etc. In their hunting fishing are they have lights for your head and also for the bill of a baseball cart. I use a head light that has 3 levels of brightness, from one LED up to six. They will run from less than $10 to the max $20. The one I use also came with two other LED lights, one to change tires with (15 LEDs) and a flashlight with 9 LEDS.

Just my $.02. Greg

A lot of headlamps these days have various brightness settings as well as a red light option. Very flexible.

Here's a lamp that's extremely reliable and won't destroy your night vision. I have used Petzyl lamps for many years and they never let me down.

Unless red light is not effective with your disease, I strongly second the recommendation of getting a red light option. You want to preserve your night vision, unless the nature of the disease renders a red light ineffective.

I have used petzls for years with no problems. I recommend one that takes removable batteries so you can quickly get back up to speed.

I have a Petzel that has brightness options for the white light and a nice red light option which is a considerate thing to have if you are shooting with other photographers.
