I have a question, would anyone have an idea what it would cost to replace a shutter. I have been looking at a 1DX with 1444K actuations. I understand the shutter is good for 400,000 but I thought it might be a good idea to ask this question now before I purchase this used camera?
Thanks to all who respond.

1444K = 1,444,000 shutter actuations. Are you serious?
Btw, it's a carbon fiber shutter and would cost about $350 to replace...

The camera will be obsolete long before you wear out the shutter with normal usage. I have damaged a shutter while cleaning the sensor but that was my fault. I don't recall the repair cost.

You will have changed cameras or died before the shutter fails...

The number of shutter actuations is just one indicator to look at. What is the overall condition of the camera? Was it used primarily in the field or studio? What is the selling price? These are only some of the considerations.

I had a 7D that had a shutter mechanism fail with only 18 or 19k actuations and Canon charged about $325 to replace it after giving the CPS discount of 10%.

With well over a million actuations already on the shutter, failure may not be that far off.

Contact CanonUSA on this. A million actuations on that camera, wow. If you meant like 14,000, I can say that you are pretty safe. I have never had to replace a shutter even when I have 50% more actuations than what it is rated for.

Thank you to all who responded to my question. Boy I made a mistake, I had one too many [4's]. It should have read [ 144K ] not [1444K].

As long at the camera wasn't abused it should be fine with 144K. You don't say how much it will cost, but if it looks clean and the price is right for you, go for it.

That sounds more like it! You'll be fine, if the price is right. Check out the overall condition of the camera, and if it's clean, go for it. It is an awesome camera with excellent low-light and autofocusing capabilities. I LOVED mine.

Interesting ... I would not worry about the number of actuations. Replacing the shutter, likely not that expensive. Most of the camera is electronic not mechanical. For this camera with a high frame rate, it is easy to rattle off 10 frames in a second. It is Canon's top of the line with great support. With a good deal, it might be worth it.

I found a used one with 44,000 clicks, recently thoroughly checked out by Canon. Bought it and love it for birds. I will be really curious about the specs on its replacement, but I doubt I will be able to touch the price.

I have only about 70,500 on my Canon 60D still works great. My 70D is about up to about 13,000 and the 5Diii is less than 10,000.
