After comparing his drawings and the originial pictures in TinEye I'll reserve my opinion of them.

I guess it's hard for one to let go of their past, any time someone comes up with a "new way to skin the monkey" I get curious about it.

That photo doesn't mean anything. Of course he had to have some inspiration, but check the link, he's legit. Whether they are remakes of already-taken pictures or not, he's not faking it with the pencil.

I went to the link and all I can say is this opens up a whole new area of art I was unfamiliar with. I clicked on several of the links under "inspiration" and some of the hyper realistic paintings are almost mind numbing as to their realism.
