The other day my 3 year old grandson wanted to look at the family pictures I was taking with my D7100. When I showed him the image on the cameras screen, the first he did was to touch the screen and swipe the image to move to the next one. It did not work of course but that is how ingrained that function is now in our younger folks.

I just happen to have a D5300 refurb purchased 2 years ago and used very lightly - a 2-week vacation plus some other random shooting. It's got a Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR Standard Zoom Lens that frankly I found very sharp. The micro 4:3 is my format, simple as that. Want to talk?

Thanks for all your input. It has been very valuable for her. She finally settled on the D7100 refurb and a new lens. She gets the whole shebang from Adorama tomorrow. I'm sure she'll be pleased.

Thanks, but she went for the D7100. Appreciate the offer to talk.

I suggest looking at used DSLRs, like a 24Mp D5200, or even a 12Mp D5000 or 12Mp D90. All have sterling reputations.

Uh, I thought the OP asked about the D5500 and D5300.

Good choice. What I like about my D7100 is that my controls are all on the camera and I do not need to dig through menus. I also moved the focus to back button and focusing, which a lot of people seem to have issues with on the D7100, and it has improved what I am doing. :-D
