I'm seeing $120 in stacked rebates for the Tamron lens until Dec 7th. Plus, if you want to go the Ebay route, you can pick it up as much as $200 less. Canonpricewatch has all the details. I'm tempted but I'd like some hog input on how much you use the lens now that you've had it for a year or more or less. Thanks!!

Purchased mine from B&H in July. Best wildlife lens I've ever used. It's very seldom off my Alpha 850 except when I'm shooting my grandkids. About the only time it's been on a tripod was when I shot the moon a couple of times. Otherwise, I've been handholding it.

I would look at the Sigma 150-600. I bought that this summer for wildlife and love it. I researched it versus the Tamron and did some image testing at a camera store, and I thought the Sigma had an edge. Don't want to start a Tamron vs Sigma war.

Thanks, PixelStan! Are you using it as much as you thought you would when you bought it? (Sorry for all the you's.) :-)

I had the Tammy 150-600 for a while-traded it in for the Sigma Contemporary version. The OS in both lenses is unbeatable. I found the Sig to be a little sharper at the 600mm end. I think the Tammy focuses faster, though. As for usage-I don't leave home without it. I'll generally use the 150-600 during every outing. I primarily shoot trains and RR stuff, but also do my fair share of nature/wildlife photos as well, but shoot most anything of interest. I think you'll be happy with either manufacturer if you're an amateur or hobbiest. That's my 2 cents.

Thanks, travisdeland. I read a topic some time ago where a few hoggers posted that they rarely used the lens after a few months, which is why I started this one. Your is the kind of feedback I was hoping to see. If an owner leaves the lens in a closet for months at a time, that's a lens that maybe should be rented for occasional use. I don't go out everyday or even one day a week on average, but when I do, I'd like the body and lens to be readily available for whatever whim I'm chasing.

Yes, I have learned to hand hold it with excellent results. I am sure you can find some deals on the Sigma.

The sigma comes with a great case so it it not a big bertha like the Nikon 600. It fits with lots of room in my roll on.

Getting the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary this week at Precision Camera here in Austin when they have their semi-annual expo, with reps here from all the major manufacturers. Extra trade-in allowances and special factory deals should overcome the tax benefits of buying online. Plus, I like to support a good local business. Will post some shots as I move up from a 150-500 Bigma. I don't think you can go wrong with the Tamron either, they're very close in specs to the Sigma, in design and in weight. Good luck.

That sounds like a great opportunity.
