Pictures in a Gallery tonight and a question

On the way to dinner tonight we stopped at a gallery open house -- gallery owned by a friend. There were several very large, framed, archival color prints for sale. Prices were comparatively reasonable. What the photographer had done was take several beautifully rendered shots of wildlife on snow and post process till the snow (or background) had no more character than a piece of typing paper. The animals were seamlessly a part of the picture. Is this a new thing? Didn't much care for them, they looked like "decorator" pieces, no accounting for tastes, I guess. Any comments? Seen any?

Nope and No.

I knew a 'photographer' in Washington DC, a French guy named Pierre. His thing was to take pictures, half develop them, tear them apart and crumple the unholy result.

He sold these monstrosities in a deep frame and called it '3D by Pierre'.

If you think I am weird, you should have met that guy!!!

Worse, I am not sure if he sold anything.

Come to think of it, three years ago we hosted a French couple with couch surfing. He was a photographer and so was she.

Her thing was to shoot everything that was blue. His was to wear a pink uniform and take picture of himself where ever he felt like.

Some folks are strange and I think the french have this part covered.

Toujours l'audace -- there are always fools with more money than taste.

I do not think you are weird at all -- I once met Andy Warhol and entourage.

I once hosted three rather beautiful French girls -- a family obligation shared, as I was already "taken". Took them to an east coast ocean beach where they changed from fully clothed to French bikinis right on the beach with the skill of fan dancers. Somehow all involved avoided arrest. Did stop a variety of folks in their tracks. Must be a French thing...

Well, without being able to see the actual images there is no way of telling if it is the artist and gallery owners taste, or yours, for which there is no accounting for. There is a photographer I have seen at shows in this area who does something similar (if I understand your description accurately); his work is well done and seems to sell consistently. It's not what I would aim for (of course I have no interest in doing wildlife images at all) but I see the appeal they might have for some.

And I met California's Governor Moonbeam (Jerry Brown) during his first terms in office. There are no end to the number of people in this world who make our most "eccentric" members seem quite ordinary.

It is also an Italian thing. I was in Italy at a beach area and the gals would either strip completely or go topless.

A local photographer takes photos with horrible composition, lighting and subject material. They are out of focus most of the time or the focus in the a corner somewhere. They photos are dark or he uses Camera Vivid. All with a pocket camera. His photos sell like hotcakes. Go figure.

No envy here, just curious. Fox floating in an absolutely blank white field -- fine shot of the animal, but the picture...and it had to take some pp work to get the effect.

Bit too voyeuristic for me. I do have some B&W film somewhere of them posing in their swimsuits for vacation souvenirs.

Even Andy and Jerry are mostly within the "white lines" but there are real outliers that you run across a few times in your life that snap all the rest into perspective!

It is not the equipment, it is the viewer who sees something in the image to want to buy it.
