My wife and I went to Cuba in October. We booked the trip through Apple Vacations which was represented by our Travel Agent. It was sold as an educational tour and was associated with Cuba Travel Services. We flew into Miami and then took a Charter aircraft to Cuba. We had a great time and enjoyed seeing things as they exist today - before it becomes another Carribean Tourist Trap. The people were very friendly and food and hotels was very adequate. I carried my SX50 and brought home approximately 1000 photos of this very beautiful (though rundown) country.

I am Canadian and visited Cuba few years ago, I was amazed to talk many US citizens holidaying there. Most had got to Cuba via the Bahamas and I found out if you are American Cuban custom officials do not stamp your passport on arrival.....hence they could return to USA via Bahamas and no record of their visit to Cuba on their passport. Cubans were anxious for the US dollar !

That is correct. We were told that they loved Canadian tourists and found many there. They are polite to Americans now and really want our money. Right now, a dollar tip goes a long way.

Why would anyone travel to an avowed communist nation that still holds political prisoners whose only crime was to demand freedom and democracy in cuba. A government that harasses the church, that spent the 70's and 80's supporting communist insurgencies world wide. That has troops in Syria assisting the Russians in keeping a dictator in power. There are plenty of interesting places in the world to visit that are not totalitarian nations. Perhaps one should ask any of the Cuban-Americans who had to flee from their country so that they could raise their families in freedom. I would no more visit Castro's Cuba then I would visit Hitler's Germany or Stalins USSR. The money you spend contributes to their governments oppression of the people. Whoever decided that trading with a communist nation was a good idea was loco. Cuba is run by a government too stupid to realize communism does not work. Hell the Chinese are capitalists in everything but name. The only Americans that should have visited cuba after Castro declared he was a communist, wear the eagle head patch of the 101st Airborne on their sleeves. JFK biggest mistake was not backing the Cuban liberators at the bay of pigs. Someday Cuba will be free
