Very mystical place. My wife and I visited there in July of 2010. Interesting history there.

A friend of mine still lives close to the Santuario and his last visit revealed that they removed all the crutches and other things left behind by the healed. Odd since so much of the Santuario's reputation is based on its healing soil. Wonder why... :?

Hate to say it, but I believe that it's become to commercial. They don't allow you to photograph inside the sanctuary using an SLR, but most people use their cell phones.

Historically, it was falling into ruin until a crucifix was found in the dirt pit, then the healing started.

If you ever get the chance, visit the church in Las Trampas. An hour from Chimayo, but well worth the trip.

Was able to take some pix with my DSLR - one of the altar and one of a Christ statue as you first come in (these in Santuario de Chimayo). And then one of Las Trampas Church in that village.
