I know some of you use the a6000. Is it a good camera to use for professional portraits? I know the more expensive a7r is used for that. My concern is that it don't shoot in RAW. I'm just starting out and need some advice guys.. Be gentle...lol Thanks in advance

What do you mean by not being able to shoot in raw? Google Gary Fong shooting with the a6000. He does some of his portrait shoots in Jpeg fine. This should put your concerns to sleep.

DPReview shows that it does shoot in raw:

For studio portraits, I shoot jpeg only with a Fuji S5pro.
If you are good at controlling the lighting, there really is no need for raw, in my opinion.

Your salesman does not know what he is talking about. The a6000 shoots RAW, RAW & JPEG, Fine, and Standard.

That being said, I agree with the above that with proper studio lighting you should not even need RAW.

Thanks Bill, I sorta feel a lil dumb as he seemed very knowledgeable about cameras. As I said before I should've done a little more homework on it. I'm really glad that I asked you guys. Can't thank ya all enough for the help

I have the Sony A6000 and it's a very capable camera.

As said, it shoots RAW & Jpg or both.

It's not the best built and feels a little cheap in the hand but it is probably the best bang for buck camera out there at the moment.

Try and buy the camera with the two lens kit.

It has a portrait setting amongst the various style selections such as landscape, sunset, etc.

You can also download apps off Sony Play Memories site such as time lapse, etc, which enhance the camera even more. There is a small charge.

The Zeiss full frame 55 mm lens does an outstanding job on the A6000. The A6000 also has a portrait setting which is a good place to start when you shoot with this camera. You can then experiment with aperture & speed.

Gary Fong shoots JPEG by choice. He does a lot of burst shooting and finds that JPEG satisfies his needs quite well. This way of shooting minimizes his need for extensive post processing.

But the A6000 shoots RAW too, and if you are trying for the very best result you can possibly get, RAW is the way to go.

Good Luck!

any FE or E mount lens from the sony range will fit.

Also Voigtlander lens with their E mount adapter are good.
