I see no one has mentioned memory usage. Get a free memory optimizer and when it slows down, optimize the memory. Heavy game usage on older systems can use up available memory.

Hey, Flip you bet I'm a Sabres fan been like this since 1970 when the Sabres drafted Gilbert Perrault. They've had a tough couple (maybe more) years lately but I think they have drafted well and added some veterans that will help. It's a slow go when you try to rebuild a new team-in any sport. First thing to do is to get into the playoffs and continue building on that.

Did you notice in Cody's Bio (http://sabres.nhl.com/club/player.htm?id=8471742) that in 2003 he played a couple games for the Smoke Eaters, our junior A team here in Trail- Cool!

What part of Alberta are you in?

The first thing to do is get those pictures off the hard drive. You can get a 32GB flash drive to put the PIX on then delete from the hard drive.

Then, look for a utility called disk cleanup goto start>allprograms>Accessories>system tools>diskcleanup. Delete everything it finds. Should take care of the problem.

these are the kind of computers I am currently having a great time with.

Windows 10 is a revival for cpu's slightly under 2.0Mh, with two GB RAM. The HD size indicates this is an IDE hard drive, OLD and slow, but capable of running Windows 10.

This is an old computer most would have replaced by now. Too much work to make it run well with it's original VISTA.

Best course to redeem it. Get your data off. Format the drive, and load Windows 7 fresh, then upgrade to Windows 10. I have about four of these old has-beens with a new lease on life via Windows 10. No problems with the upgrades and relatively fast and very reliable.

Anything I see recommended here in this thread is just a waste of time. I suspect you have never cleaned out the temp files, turned off file indexing, or changed the Performance setting in Advanced Settings???? Right?

Run a program (free) called CCleaner from Piriform. Will get all the clutter out. Then run Malwarebytes free version. If that doesn't give it a jump start, then I would put 10 on it. If it's an IDE drive as most early VISTA computers were, then you can't put a SATA or SSD drive in the machine.

Yeah Swede, I like the Wise 365 for cleaning and the Wise Memory Optimizer for obvious reasons.

I would be really surprised if that machine would load and run Win7.

You are correct, but it will load Window 7 long enough to upgrade to Windows 10.... where all will be well.

I have three old XP machines with cpu's less than 1.7 (one 1.30) 1.5 to 2 Gb RAM and 80 Gb hard drives, all running Windows 10 quite well.

This is the most significant improvement of Windows 10... ability to run stable on lesser machines.

So you are right, but you are not carrying the equation far enough, as I have. Windows 10 is the best answer for machines that ran poor on Vista and 7.

Love the Spitfire avatar. We used to call it the "rollover wonder" in our SCCA regional club.

My mac laptop was slowing down, doing all the funky things like stopping, blue line, etc. and my problem was the battery. It was getting hot and causing the problem.

Yes, I experienced similarly with my MacBook.

I successfully installed Windows 7, on an older DELL laptop that initially came with Windows Vista. The only change I had to make to the hardware was to install additional RAM. The laptop runs fine, not as fast as my MacBook, but still good enough for casual use.
