Can't go wrong with Canon SX 50 although may be a bit large for glove box.

Canon Digital Elph. You can probably an older version of Amazon.com, Used-Like New condition, within your price range. About the size of a cigarette pack.

I used Canon Elph for eight years until I switched to a Pentax Q-system. The Elph is a good solid system; its main problem is the fact that truly is a point-and-shoot camera.

(1) It creates JPEG files only.

(2) It has a limited number of White Balance options (at a Madrigal Dinner, it insisted on "fixing" the candle-light atmosphere that the organizers had worked so hard to establish).

(3) It has the 1/2.3" sensor so typical of point-and-shoot cameras, so limited dynamic range washes out light-colored details (such as Caucasian faces) in sunlit scenes.

On the pricey side are the Sony RX100 III or IV and the Panasonic LX100. I have the first RX100 and added the LX100 to my kit to improve video clip quality. Both take amazing stills.

I have a S100 and still consider it one of my favorites. Takes nice images and I'm a big fan of the gps feature. If the gps isn't important to you, the Canon S and G series powershots are all very good. I just wish they had kept the gps instead of going to wifi. Want to move from the Canon? I don't know how you could lose going to a Sony RX100 series. Don't forget to check the Canon refurb market.

I'd lay in the weeds for a refurb S110, perhaps another S100, when they run their periodic sales on these refurb items. Hard to go wrong with Canon refurb, especially when they offer it as a weekly or monthly feature, i.e. bucks off :)

I use the Canon S120 for my pocket camera. Similar to the 110 but w raw and dslr-like controls.

I added a Canon sx50 to my car console and golf bag. Great general purpose camera, particularly if you need the extended zoom (50X).
I bought mine, refurbished (suspect it was brand new, just returned to Canon) for $149. At that price I purchased it regardless of whether I needed it or not! :-D
