I'm looking to buy a remote shutter release for my T2i. could I get some advice between wireless and wired remotes?
Thanks
Pappy
Wired is certainly cheaper. Wireless is my favorite. I chose the radio frequency type. I have tested it and the beauty of it is it can send a signal through walls. As an example, I set up my camera on a tripod to take pictures of the bird feeder in my backyard. In the kitchen I can fire the camera outside with no problem. Infra red has it's limitations such as line of sight and using it in bright sunlight. Maybe someone with more experience can help.
I too am a big fan of wireless. You don't have to be in front of the camera, or in fact any place near it as larry indicates.
Get one of each they will both be used.
I bought the EN-EL5
Works great with my D90
Had to go online to find out what to set on the dial
I bought a wired release which works fine but now I wish I bought the wireless.
I use both a wired and a infra-red wireless remote. Those are both very inexpensive if you go with generic brands.
You will find that the situation dictates what will work best. In outdoor light the infra red does not have much range. An rf (radio) remote would overcome this limitation.
Check with how the remote works with your camera. With model Olympus e-620, the wireless has to be out front. The wired version works great, but is more cumbersome and tends to falls out when moving the camera, if not carful. I already lost one.
You want the wireless. It allows you to get in the photo or allow you to move around say to hold a reflector. The wire units are only one to two feet long.
I have a wireless for my T3i and love it! So glad I spent the extra and got the wireless.

I'm myself thinking about a remote for my Sony, but it cost something like $35 (it seems to have enough buttons on it to do lots of stuff though) while the cheap ones look like all they can do is snap the pic, but are lots cheaper. Is it better to have all the bells and whistles or don't you really need them??
I bought a cheap one that was supposed to work with my camera. When it finally got here and I tried it out, nothing. So I bought the Canon brand one for $25 and it works perfectly!
